IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Wendy Loree
Olson
June 29, 1951 – September 3, 2024
Wendy Loree (Hood) Olson, born in Mt. Vernon, Washington on June 29, 1951, passed away peacefully at home in Tulalip, Washington on September 3, 2024, at the age of 73.
Wendy was a member of the International Order of the Rainbow Girls of the Masonic Temple of Stanwood as a teenager. She was also a member of the Stanwood Fraternal Order of Eagles for many years and was raised as a United Methodist. Throughout her elementary and high school years, she attended Stanwood schools.
Her meat packing career spanned several years, beginning at Schenk Packing Co. of Stanwood, Washington, and retiring from Sunny Farms Country Store in Sequim, Washington. There, she met numerous customers who became friends at her meat counter.
Wendy made friends wherever she went, always engaging in conversations, and by the time the conversation ended, you would have thought the new acquaintance was a lifelong friend. She had a servant's heart and was constantly involved in organizing birthday parties and other events for her family and friends. Throughout her life, she kept in touch with family and friends through cards, phone calls, and meeting up for lunch or coffee. She enjoyed trips to the nursery and planting flowers. She also had a passion for crafting, but during the holiday season, her peanut butter balls were legendary.
She is survived by her children, Rod Harnden of Stanwood and Renee Harnden-Moore (Ron) of Tulalip; five grandchildren, Kristofer, Mikaila, and Nickolas Harnden, Drew, and Ryann Bjerkaker, and five great-grandchildren, Carey, Adalynn, Calypso, Ian, and Oakley. She leaves behind two brothers, Greg Hood (Joannie), and Randy Hood (Kimberly); two sisters, Maureen Hood and Kathy Floe; and sister-in-law Pam Hood, as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins, whom she cherished and loved.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband William M. Olson, two of her brothers, Jerry Hood and Gaylen Dee Hood, her mother, Laura Mann, her stepmother Shirley Hood, and her father, George Hood.
At her request, there will be no services. Cremation is under the direction of Gilbertson Funeral Home, Stanwood, Washington. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Thanks to Fred Hutchinson, UW Medical Center, and Evergreen Health Hospice for providing such excellent care to our loved one. It was a brave fight that she fought for herself, her family, and for research that could benefit future generations.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center or Evergreen Health Hospice, 12040 NE 128th Street, MS #5, Kirkland, WA 98034.
