Vivian R. Mackey (Berg) Wynne
October 3, 1929 - July 10, 2012
Longtime Camano/Stanwood resident, Vivian passed peacefully into the arms of her Lord, July 10, 2012 in Mount Vernon, WA at the age of 82. Vivian lived independently in her Stanwood apartment for the last 14 years with the help of family and friends. Special thanks to Joe, Robin, Jean, Andrea, Nancy, Maria, Harvey, Carrie/Greg & family, Theresa & Don. Cascade Companion Care supported Vivian and the family in her final weeks.
Vivian Ruth was born to Harold C. Mackey and Rachel Sharp Mackey on October 3, 1929 in Yakima, WA. She spent most of her early life in the Seattle area and graduated from Roosevelt High School. She married Don Berg in 1947 and raised their family in N Seattle until they moved permanently to their weekend home on Camano Island in 1962. Vivian helped Don in his sign business and hobby shop. After their divorce Vivian remained in the area and pursued a full time career at The Stanwood News, working for Cliff Danielson. She excelled as a reporter and worked her way up to News Editor. In 1972 she married Roly Wynne and later left the News to join Roly in Wynne Accounting where she also earned her real estate license. Vivian kept the business going after Roly died in 1986. No one worked harder to find the correct answer to IRS questions and to secure the highest, legitimate refund due her customers. She retained several of her clients for over 30 years before officially retiring in 2010.
Vivian dearly loved her children and grandchildren, as they loved her. Friends and family especially admired her resourcefulness and wit. Vivian never lost her sense of humor; she was independent, a great listener and a great talker. Her love of musicals, reading, current events and the internet kept her well informed. Her hobbies also included working with Girl Scouts and later, boating with Roly. She served 16 years on the Stanwood/Camano Fair Board as Treasurer and served 21 years as Secretary/Treasurer of the New Utsalady Water System.
Vivian is survived by her sisters Ila Willian and Marcia Hoffman (Larry) and brother, Mark Mackey (Joanne); daughters Linda Taylor (Lee), Lani Landry (Steve), Judy Murphy (Kai), 5 grandchildren: Phillip Hammons (Dendarah), Julie Dougherty, Brian Slaughter (Lucia), David Slaughter (Jennifer), Sonia Heeks; 12 great grandchildren: Jessica and Renee Slaughter, Dylan and Tyler Slaughter, Deane and Chris Blakely, Tazmun, Trever & Gavin Heeks, Jayden Golson, Phillip, Jr. and Audrie Hammons.
Vivian was preceded in death by her parents, brother Hal Mackey, Don Berg (father of her children), husband Roly Wynne, infant son Donald Robert Berg, and grandson Nathan Taft Evans.
