Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved brother, Vincent Paul Uchytil, who left us on November 29, 2023 Vince was 78 years old. Vinnie, as he was fondly called by friends and family, was born on August 5, 1945 to Frank and Mary Uchytil in Flint, Michigan. Vince moved with his parents and three siblings to Haugen, WI later in 1945 and was raised on a small family farm. Tragedy struck the Uchytil family in 1952 when three of the six children at the time contracted polio, with Vince having spinal polio that impacted his lower body.

The Uchytil family moved to Superior, WI in March 1954 for Frank to work at Lidgerwood-Mundy Corp. as a machinist which allowed Vince to attend Cooper School where they also attended to children with handicaps. Initially, Vince struggled to walk, using braces and crutches. Vince eventually no longer needed braces and spent most of his life with a cane or crutches, and lastly was in a wheel chair due to post-polio syndrome. Vince was a testament to generosity, internal fortitude and a desire that allowed him to attack and conquer most of his life's challenges. He is a role model and a hero to everyone in his family. Vince's motto for life was, "Thanks for the Indulgence," which he fully embraced.

Vince attended one year of college at University of Wisconsin-Superior before heading into the working world. He held many jobs but the major portion of his career was at Lockheed Shipbuilding and Construction Company and the Boeing Company in Seattle, WA. Vince had many interests, including swimming, avidly collecting, especially sports memorabilia and native arts, and loved his Seattle Mariners, Seahawks and Kraken, for which he held season tickets to all.

Vince is survived by his sister Margaret (Peg) Abrahamson, Sister Betty Uchytil SSND, Gerard Uchytil (Shelley), Steven Uchytil (Patty), and Daniel Uchytil (Angie), and several loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Mary Uchytil, and brothers Tom, William and Mark.

A special thank you to Evergreen Hospice Healthcare and to his brother Daniel and wife Angie who took on the challenge of taking care of Vince in the final weeks of his life in their home.

Vince supported many charities. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society in Seattle, WA or Shriners Children's – Spokane, WA.
