Obituary

On June 23, 2022, Vernal (Vern) G. Powell, loving husband, father & grandad, passed away at home at age 86 and entered into the presence of the Lord with joy. Dad was born November 27, 1935 to Harry & Ruby (Kite) Powell with brother, Ross, joining the family 3 years later. The family moved frequently across the country until finally settling in at Sedro-Woolley, WA. Dad graduated from Sedro-Woolley High School in 1953. In early 1957, Dad met Marian Lee Nave and 7 months later they were married on September 5, 1957. Their love affair lasted almost 65 years and resulted in 5 children; Stephen, Ann, Roger, Alice & Sharon. Dad was a lifelong follower of Jesus and that love of Christ was shared with family, friends or strangers although Dad rarely met a stranger because he had a natural gift of engaging mere strangers in conversation and making them into friends. Dad also had a love of anything mechanical and enjoyed spending time tinkering with his cars or learning about the latest designs of cars and airplanes. He also was a craftsman and always had a project at hand, even up to the very last days of his life. Dad and Mom purchased their land on Camano Island in 1978. They used it initially as a weekend retreat but eventually built their home there in 1987. They spent 45 years nurturing the raw land into the beautiful gardens and landscape of Windsong Farm. It is a place of gathering for family and friends as Dad always loved a party. He was excitedly anticipating the celebration of their 65th wedding anniversary this September. Dad was preceded in death by both parents and his brother, Ross. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Marian, his loved children Stephen (Karen) Powell, Ann (Frank) Doering, Roger Powell, Alice (Ricardo) Villasenor & Sharon (Nick) Dunn along with his beloved grandchildren, Stefany Doering, Ariel Villasenor, Alex Powell, Sean (René) Powell, Jacob (Samantha) Villasenor, Caitlin Dunn, Kirsten Powell, Julia Villasenor, Eric Powell, Ryan Dunn & Jeremiah Dunn. There will be a memorial service on August 6, 2022 @ 1pm at Island Baptist Church,  147 Woodland Dr, Camano, WA 98282, where Dad & Mom are members. Also,  following the service we will have a reception to celebrate Dad's life at Mom & Dad's Camano home. (reception address to be provided at the Memorial.)  "Well done, good and faithful servant;...Enter into the joy of your lord." Matthew 25:23
