Colonel (ret.) Trannie Wayne Sanderson
A great man and officer passed away with his family by his side on July 27, 2012 at his home in Stanwood, Washington after a courageous battle with cancer.
Wayne was born in Amory, Mississippi on February 27, 1943 to Trannie B. and Marie Sanderson. Wayne graduated from Olive Branch High School in 1962 and holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Jacksonville State University. He served his country honorably for 26 years as an officer in the US Army Chemical Corp. During his service to his country he held a variety of command and staff positions in the United States, Vietnam and Germany. His last duty was as the Deputy Assistant Commandant of the US Army Chemical School. He was awarded the two Bronze Star Medals, four Meritorious Service Medals, three Army Commendation Medals, The Legion of Merit Medal and various other United States and foreign awards. After his retirement from the US Army he worked for several years for EG&G and Battelle.
Wayne was an avid outdoorsman and had a zest for life, fun and adventure. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, skiing, camping with his mini dachshund grand pets Ali and Bailey, gardening and fine dining.
Wayne was completely devoted to his family and always put others first. He will be forever missed and eternally loved.
Wayne is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Kathy; his daughter Stacey Sanderson Murray; his mother Marie Sanderson; sisters Sheila Sanderson and Rhonda Sanderson Anselm; nephew Marty Belk; nieces Karen Kennedy and Charlotte Gunter; and numerous other loving family and friends.
Wayne is preceded in death by his father Trannie B. Sanderson.
Those who knew and cared for Wayne are welcome to join his family in a celebration of his life to be held on Saturday, August 18, 2012 from 1-4pm at the Sanderson home. Funeral services will be held at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington DC at a later date. Arrangements are being handled by Gilbertson Funeral Home in Stanwood, WA.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Wayne's memory can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or American Lung Association.
