Obituary

Thomas Jesse James was born on January 21st 1945 in Rock Springs Wyoming. Tom died surrounded by his daughter Kim Schakel and wife of 49 years Kathy, on April 5th, 2018 in Everett.

Tom moved to Western Washington at a young age. Upon graduating from St Martins High School in 1963, he joined the Navy. After completing his military service, Tom returned to Seattle to meet and marry Kathleen Galvin in September 1968. While married and with three young children, Tom attended the University of Washington completing a Bachelor of Science in Forestry in 1982. Tom spent the majority of his career at US Naval Submarine Base Bangor.

Tom's career included various deer and bear studies and managing wildlife and eco systems on base. Tom's career highlight was an individual award for outstanding achievement for Natural Resources Conservation from the Chief of Naval Operations and Secretary of the Navy in 1998.

In retirement, he enjoyed returning to Wyoming, spending time with his 5 grandchildren and raising chickens, lamb and beef on a small property in Darrington. Tom is survived by Kathy James of Camano, Kim and Dennis Schakel of Stanwood and James and Karyn Winters of New Zealand. His grandchildren Molly and Arie Schakel, Sophie and George Winters and Hunter James have lost a good friend. Funeral Services will be held 11am on Wednesday the 18th at St Benedict Catholic Church 1805 N 49th Street Seattle. Funeral services will be held at 11AM on Wednesday, April 18th, 2018 at St. Benedict Catholic Church 1805 N 49th St. Seattle, WA.
