Theodore Erick Oien (Ted) was born on December 23, 1947 at Providence Hospital in Everett, WA to parents, Adolph and Betty Oien. Ted passed away on March 29, 2026.
He attended Stanwood schools and graduated June 6, 1966. He turned out for track and was active in 4-H Dairy and FFA.
Ted attended Skagit Valley Community College for two years, where he met his future wife, Jean Mason. Ted signed up for the Navy and spent 4 years enlisted as a radarman in the service. He was able to travel to the Philippines, Hong Kong, Singapore and Japan on the USS Mobile.
Ted and Jean were married on June 19, 1971 at the Church of Christ in Anacortes, WA. Ted was a dairy farmer for 35 years. He was on the board of Luther Child Center in Everett, financial board at Peace Lutheran Church for 10 years, a member of the Sons of Norway in Stanwood, treasurer of Dairy Federation, and member of the JAYCEES.
Ted loved the water; swimming, water skiing, jet skis, and boating. He enjoyed spending time with his brother Dick, his best friend Al Rob, and his cousin Bob, attending car shows, music, singing in the church choir, playing piano, dancing, listening to Stan Boreson and Paul Harvey, playing pool, time spent with family and friends, class reunions, driving tractor, and traveling. Ted and Jean enjoyed two trips to Norway and Sweden, an Alaskan cruise, visits to Hawaii, visiting friends and relatives on the east coast, and a winter stay on the Colorado River in Parker, Arizona for 5 years.
Ted is survived by his college sweetheart and wife, Jean, and their free-thinking daughters, Laura (Troy Thie), Ericka Oien, and Alicia Oien. He also leaves behind a brother, Dick Oien (Lynette), niece Danielle Danielson (Andrew), Caleb (Zoe), Abigail, Barric; nephew Ben Oien (Amy), Troy Oien (Jordan), Tobias, and cousins, Bob Sorenson (Arlene), Neil Sorenson and Patty Bert.
The family would like to say a special thank you to all the caregivers, family members, friends, community support, and prayers throughout Ted’s 18-year challenge with Parkinson’s disease. We would especially like to thank Anna Ronning for her dedicated care and support of Ted for six years. Also, we’d like to extend our appreciation to Olympic Place in Arlington, Hospice of the Northwest in Mt. Vernon, and Nurse Laura from Hospice of the Northwest.
Ted’s Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, April 18 at Peace Lutheran Church in Silvana, WA (1717 Larson Road).
