Steven Lawrence Malmstead peacefully passed into Heaven March 30th.  Steve grew up in his beloved Lake Stevens graduating in 1972, lived in Marysville, on Camano Island and in Leavenworth.   He is preceded in death by his parents Walter and Ivy Malmstead, brother James (Jim) Malmstead and Jamie Malmstead Wright.  He is succeeded in life by his wife of 45 years Cheryl M. (White) Malmstead, son Kent A. Malmstead and granddaughter Aubrey M. Malmstead, sister Janet Malmstead Kanikeberg, sister-in-law Gale Malmstead, nieces Stacy (Destry) Toney, Joni (Kevin) Lane, Cindy Stensrud and Julie (Eric) Lutz's and various great and great-great nieces and nephews.

Steve's passions and vocations were always deeply rooted in his musical talents.  He earned a BA in Choral Music from SPU and his MA In Education from UW.

His musical career spanned more than 40 years and included private piano and vocal instruction, choir directing, solo piano and vocal performances, elementary education, and finally finishing his career as music teacher at Allen Creek Elementary.  He also participated in various musicals, theatre and opera productions with Seattle Opera, Everett Opera, Kings Singers and community all school choirs.

Apart from music, his interests included travel, history and family history, literature, tennis and snowmobiling.  He loved family traditions  and most of all spending time with his "favorite granddaughter" in the world, Aubrey.

A memorial will be held on Saturday, May 13th at 1:00pm at Marysville United Methodist Church.  In lieu of flowers donations can be made to The Everett Philharmonic or to a charity of your choice.
