September 22, 1936 – December 2, 2023
Shirley Jo Zahner, a resident of Edmonds, Washington, passed away at the age of 87 on December 2, 2023, after a life brimming with warmth and vibrancy.
Born as Shirley Jo Lind on September 22, 1936, to Fay Fielding Lind and William G. Lind in Seattle, Washington, Shirley's roots were firmly planted in Ballard, where she spent her formative years. Her high school days forged lasting friendships that would endure throughout her lifetime.
Following her graduation, Shirley embarked on an educational journey at the University of Washington. Later, she would marry her high school sweetheart, Palmer Stangvik. Together, they nurtured their two children, Erik Stangvik and Heidi Stangvik, in the heart of the Seattle community. Shirley's life was marked by her unwavering commitment to Beta Sigma Phi, an international Women's Friendship Network, and various organizations dedicated to enriching the lives of the elderly. Her passion for her work as an Optician's Assistant shone brightly, touching the lives of many.
In 1983, a new chapter unfolded for Shirley with her marriage to Frank Zahner. They embarked on countless adventures, residing on Whidbey and Camano Islands, with winters spent in the sun-kissed locales of Green Valley, AZ, and Kona, HI. Together, they explored the world, indulged in their love for bridge, and cultivated enduring friendships that spanned the globe. Theirs was a true love story, a testament to the enduring power of love, spanning an incredible 37 years.
Shirley leaves behind a legacy of love, survived by her children, Erik and Heidi, and her adored granddaughters, Olivia and Allegra. She is also remembered fondly by the extended Zahner family, including Frank's four daughters, Christine, Mary, Teresa, and LeeAnn, along with their loving husbands, eight grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Susan G. Komen Foundation, honoring Shirley's spirit of compassion and generosity.
