Bob was born a fraternal twin in the Kirkland hospital on February 3, 1948.He resided in Kirkland WA all his growing up years. He was a Boy Scout and enjoyed many camping trips and hiking along the Cascade Crest trail and camping with lifelong family friends in the North Cascades.
Bob worked at his family-owned cemetery Sunset Hills in Bellevue WA, during summer vacations and later served on the board of directors until the cemetery was sold. Bob graduated from Lake Washington High School in 1966.
In June of 1969 Bob was drafted into the army and trained at Fort Lewis WA. He was deployed to Vietnam serving in the Riverine Force on the Mekong River. He was wounded by an incoming mortar receiving 2 two purple hearts for his injuries that lasted a lifetime.
Bob met his wife Sally of 45 years in 1971. They married in 1978 and lived in Aberdeen and Bellingham Wa where Bob was employed with Bell Telephone. They returned to Kirkland and Bob worked for Sallys family business Schmidt Company selling automotive locks and then learned the Locksmith trade and worked in the Locksmith field. Bob was so talented in everything he attempted and a wonderful problem solver.
He loved to travel across the U.S and Canada in an R.V. He was an expert water-skier and snow skier.
He was very passionate about fishing and spent many hours sockeye fishing on Lake Washington, and the Stillaguamish river and at Sun Lakes State Park with a very loyal group of Kirkland friends.
Bob touched so many lives, he was a very kind, generous and fun-loving person. He was always willing to help others and to reach out to those in need. He volunteered for many organizations and recently volunteered for many years at the Stillaguamish Valley Museum in Arlington
He was preceded in death by his father Frank, mother Janet and sister Joan Lentz. He is survived by his wife Sally, brother David Shinstrom, sister Carol Roach, niece Teri Overby and grandnephews Zachary, Derek, and Austin.
