Just as a lighthouse stands as a beacon through the changing tides, Richard “Rick” Earl Troyer was a source of effulgence and strength for his family and community. After a long and full journey, Rick found rest on May 2, 2026, in Mount Vernon. He spent his life as a steady beacon for his family, and in the end, it was their love that saw him through to his final shore.

Born in Oak Harbor on February 21, 1947, Rick’s roots were planted deep in the soil of the Pacific Northwest. He grew up in Everett, graduating in 1965, but the most significant milestone of his youth came on January 8, 1966, when he married his soulmate, Judy. Together, they began a voyage that spanned an incredible 60 years and raised their two sons, Garth and Gary.

Rick’s professional life was defined by a strong work ethic and steady leadership. He built a respected career in the building materials industry with companies like Herr Lumber and Pay ‘N’ Pack before finding his long-term professional home at CertainTeed Insulation in 1983. After 21 years of dedicated service, he retired in 2004 at the age of 57.

In retirement, Rick and Judy followed the sound of the waves. They first moved to Saratoga Beach on Whidbey Island, finding peace in the cabin life, before eventually settling on Camano Island in 2005. Rick spent his years on the islands as a natural mentor to his grandkids. Whether they were out by the water or just enjoying the view, he taught them to love the Puget Sound and inspired them to live with the kind of purpose that makes the world a little brighter.

Rick was a man of many passions. He was a devoted coach for his children’s youth soccer and baseball teams, and a passionate student of Everett history. His creative spirit flourished through model railroading, a hobby that brought him hours of joy alongside Judy and his fellow club members. Whether he was watching golf, admiring classic cars, or meticulously detailing a miniature landscape, Rick found beauty in the details.

Rick’s warmth and steady spirit continue to shine through his surviving family:

  • His beloved wife, Judy.
  • His sons, Garth (Linda) and Gary.
  • His grandchildren, Austin (Josh), Tanner, Haley, Josh (Melissa), and Karissa.
  • His great-grandchildren, Katlin, Zachary, and Nora Mae.

Though the physical light of the lighthouse may have dimmed, the coordinates he set—of hard work, loyalty, and deep familial love—will guide his descendants for generations to come.
