On February 16, 2015 Richard Smith Norgaard, 84, passed away at home with family. Richard was born in Eugene, Oregon. He lived most of his life in Stanwood, WA.
Richard belonged to the Future Farmers of America and cattle clubs where he showed his cows. He was later drafted into the Army. He received an honorable discharge August 1961 as Specialist E-5 US Army. He was self-employed.
Richard had many stories to tell of his life and many travels. One was the time he and Jim Hayton, his nephew, went to Africa to deliver an airplane to the missionaries. They spent a few weeks flying all over the country. They also went to England and then to Denmark to visit their relatives.
He married Dorthy Childs and she passed away. Richard married Barbara Davis June 1, 1996. He never had children of his own, but he took Barbara's three children in as his own.
Richard is survived by his wife, Barbara Davis Norgaard; her children Lorraine Casteel of Mount Vernon, Mark Davis of Tacoma, and Mariah Casteel of Mount Vernon; grandchildren Jesse, Keith and Michael Clark of Mount Vernon, Christopher Casteel (Nicky) & sons Jadin & Gavin of Burlington; nieces and nephews Mary Hayton (Kevin Murphy) of Lopez Island, Shirley & Jim Haehn of Sedro Woolley, Roger Dean Hayton of Bremerton, and Jim Hayton of Sedro Woolley; and cousins Nancy Norgaard Garlow and husband of Blaine, Larry Norgaard (Sue) and family of Edmonds, Jay Parish & wife & son Colin, Barbara Lickiss & family of Maple Valley, Karen Norgaard Wickstrom. Richard had many relative in Denmark. Maguus Norgaard and family, Ingel Norgaard, Niels Norgaard, Lars Norgaard, and Mette Norgaard.
Richard was a good man and he will be missed. Memorial Service is pending.
