Obituary

Raymond I. Trampush went to his eternal rest on Saturday, June 20th, 2015. He passed peacefully in his home surrounded by loving family members just weeks before his 94th birthday.

He was born Raymond Ignatius Trampush on July 31, 1921 to Alozje (Louis) and Helen Tomsha Trampush in Valley (Stevens Co) Washington. Raymond was the sixth of seven children born into the family.

Siblings included:

Louis Frederick Trampush (1907-1968) of Lewiston Idaho; Frank (Francis) Ignatius Trampush (1909-1993) of Chewelah, Wa; Benjamin Leo (1910–1998) of Valley, Wa; Rosala Frances Trampush Wilson (1913-1995) of Selah, Wa; Barthomas Frederick (Jerry) Trampush (1917 - 1928) Valley, Wa; and Adolph John (1927–1996) of Selah, WA.

Raymond, a resident of Selah, Wa, married Aurora Louise Le Moine of Moxee, Wa on October 10, 1953 in St. Joseph's Church, Yakima, Wa. The couple would have celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary.
A devout Catholic and long time member of St. Joseph's Parish in Yakima as well as Our Lady of Lourdes in Selah, Wa., where he participated in both the men's choir, ushering and church lector work. Raymond was active in the Knights of Columbus from the age of 17 and was a life insurance agent for the Knights of Columbus Insurance Company for 25 years before retiring in 1985. He was also employed with the US Postal Service during the 50 before becoming a life insurance agent.

Raymond and Aurora raised their five children, Paul Raymond, Anne Louise, David Michael, Brian Joseph and Mary Edna in their family home in Selah, Wa. During his parenting years, Ray was very active in his children's T-ball and little leagues teams as head coach. He was an avid hunter and outdoors man along with his sons, Paul, David and Brian, and passed down life skills of wood working, carpentry and auto mechanics to them.

He passed on his love of gardening and landscaping to his daughters, Anne and Mary, who are both very active gardeners.

The family vacations included camping, fishing traveling and touring through the state of Washington.

Raymond was a highly creative and artistic individual and loved to pass on that talent to each of his children through visual arts. Raymond did the art work for both the church bulletin and bulletin boards in the foyer of St. Joseph Church and also taught art classes for parishioners. He was a very dedicated volunteer in many areas of church and community service.

A highly skilled musician and singer, a member of the Barber Shop Quartet in the 1950s, he sang in the men's church choir as a tenor and soloist.

Raymond learned to play the violin at the age of seven and perform in local events along with his family's band (The Louis Trampush Family) at the age of nine. He shared his violin expertise with the church choir and with the Knights of Columbus main events.

His family joined regularly for gatherings and reunions in both Selah and Chewelah in which they enjoyed playing their instruments together for song and dance passing on that rich tradition of Slovenian/Austrian folk music to his children by teaching them the traditional dance steps at a very young age.

Ray played his violin with fiddlers as a young man before he married, and before retirement he started and developed group of Ole Tyme Fiddlers in Yakima during the 1980s and 90s and joined the Southwest fiddlers from Arizona while there during their winter travels.

He traveled and performed nationally with the Southwest Ole Tyme Fiddlers winning contests placing first in the nationals in the mid nineties and continued on with the Northwest Fiddlers after the couple moved back to Mt. Vernon, Washington from Benson Arizona.

He won many honors with his fiddling during his retirement years and was known throughout the southwest as a highly accomplish and talented musician.

Raymond was 89 yr. old when he played for the last time as an active member of the Ole Tyme Fiddlers with his group while they performed at the senior citizen center in Mt. Vernon, Wa, in which the aged musican still continued to dazzle his audience with his amazing talent.

Shortly thereafter, Ray continued to perform for family gatherings as the strength in his fingers would allow until eventually he could play no longer but continued to coach grand and great grandchildren in the fine points of his beloved instrument, encouraging them to carry on.

Raymond and Aurora enjoyed their travels through the US studying and developing their genealogy studies, extensively on both sides of their family trees which lead to their own publication of the Trampush family records during the 90s.

They eventually settled in Benson Arizona during the early 90s before returning to Stanwood and settling in Mt. Vernon, Wa.
Raymond lived out his last days with his wife, Aurora and children, (who live nearby) in Lynnwood, Wa.

Ray is survived by his wife Aurora Trampush (Lynnwood, Wa), son Paul Trampush (Vicky)(Powell Butte, Or), daughter Anne Trampush Halterman (Edmonds, Wa), sons David Trampush (Diane)(Yakima, Wa) and Brian Trampush (Linda)(Stanwood, Wa), and daughter Mary Trampush Emnott (Chuck)(Stanwood, Wa).
