Raymond Lee Impson passed away peacefully and surrounded by love at Swedish Hospital in Edmonds on Wednesday, June 7, 2017. He was 85 years old and still sharp as a tack.
Ray's three children, Stuart, Mark and Rae Ann, along with his eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren, were his pride and comfort.
Born in Bokchito, Oklahoma, on April 24, 1932, Ray was an identical twin. He and his family made their way to Los Angeles in 1936, looking for opportunity. He grew up in sunny southern California.
Ray spent four years in the Navy, serving in Guam and San Francisco, where he met his beautiful wife, Joye Fjarlie. Shortly after, he exchanged the sun for the rain by taking a job at Boeing, where he spent 35 years in a career as a Facilities Manager, and settled down in the Seattle area to raise his three children.
Blissfully married for 52 years, Joye passed away in 2007, but Ray was fortunate enough to appreciate his distinguished older years with his loving lifelong friend, Janet Hagen.
Ray was the warmth in the room, the wizard of wisdom and the calm in the storm. A compassionate husband, dependable father, good-humored grandfather and lucky card player, Ray was one of those rare souls who was respected for his strong character. You could always rely on Ray. His happiness came from the successes and well being of his family and friends.
There will be a private graveside service with absolutely no "hoopla." Ray's family would like to thank Hospice for their delicate care and support. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Providence Hospice and Home Care of Snohomish County, or to a charity of your choice.
