IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Rannfrid "Randi"
Hodne
January 1, 1927 – May 17, 2023
Rannfrid Jertrud Hodne, nee Alvseike was born on New Year's Day 1927 in Nedre Vats, Norway the seventh of nine children of Joseph Alvseike and Randi Alvseike, nee Spartveit.
The family supported their small family farm by running the local telephone exchange. Because they had the telephone exchange, the family was required to house German soldiers in their home throughout the occupation during WWII.
Rannfrid attended Business High School in Flekkefjord. Following graduation, she worked for a year as an au pair in Scotland and Wales. While in Great Britain, Rannfrid became acquainted with another Norwegian au pair named Ingrid Hodne.
After her time in Great Britain, Rannfrid moved to Oslo with her sister Anne. In Oslo, she worked as an international operator for the Norwegian telephone company. One of her colleagues was named Else whose boyfriend was Ingard Hodne, the cousin of Ingrid. This led to Rannfrid's introduction to Ingrid's younger brother, Normann Hodne.
Rannfrid and Normann married in 1954. In 1956, they took the big decision to follow Ingard and Else to Chicago where Norman Andreas and Erik Ingard were born.
In 1960, Rannfrid had had enough of the weather in Chicago, and they followed another cousin, Otto Hodneland to Tacoma, Washington where Greta Randi was born.
The family eventually moved to Seattle and then Shoreline, where the kids grew up on a mini-orchard that provided fruit and berries for Rannfrid's jelly and juice making. She was famous in the neighborhood for her Norwegian pancakes and the children would gather to compete for the title of most pancakes eaten!
When the kids were older, Rannfrid returned to the workforce, first as a switchboard operator at Northwest Hospital and housekeeper and eventually as an office manager for an Oby-Gyn doctor.
She will be remembered for her laugh, humor, and abundant love for her family both in the U.S. and Norway. She was an expert at all needle work, including knitting, crocheting, sewing and needlepoint art. Her beautiful Norwegian tapestries will be forever cherished.
Rannfrid was a member of Camano Lutheran Church and Daughters of Norway where she truly enjoyed the many friendships within the sisterhood. She also loved to bowl, play bridge and travel in the camper with her husband.
Rannfrid passed away at home, surrounded by family, on the 17th of May, 2023 – Norwegian Constitution Day.
Rannfrid is survived by her son Norman Andreas, his wife Kim, their daughter Michelle (Tyler) and granddaughter Lily Ann, her son Erik Ingard, and her daughter Greta Randi, Greta's husband Craig, their daughter Katelyn (Jake) and son Collin (Chloey).
Family and friends are invited to join a casual Celebration of Life picnic, on Sunday, June 25th at 12noon, on Camano Island Country Club's Beach #2.
