Obituary

Pearl Leone Mortenson, age 85, passed away on December 10, 2017 at her home in Marysville, WA. When Pearl was born on December 5, 1932, in Brainerd, Minnesota, her father, Kenneth was 26, and her mother, Leona was 24. Pearl spent her childhood growing up with her four sisters in Brainerd, MN.

She loved children and always dreamt of marrying a farmer and having a large family. She had eight children that she raised on a 160 acre farm in Littlefork, MN. She loved family gatherings and everyone was welcome at the family table. She was completely devoted to her children and was always there for both her children and grandchildren.

She was not only a devoted wife and mother but she worked as the head cook at the Littlefork Hospital and nursing home. She was a member of the Littlefork Evangelical Free Church, where she taught Sunday school, taught Wednesday night youth meetings and sang in the choir. She also volunteered to help cook for the Church pancake breakfasts, sewed costumes for the Christmas program and helped with janitorial work. She and her family had a Christian gospel singing group and performed at various church services.

She was blessed with a number of natural gifts. She sang alto, played the piano, accordion and harmonica. She drew, painted, knitted and was an amazing seamstress. She loved animals, gardening, reading, canning, cooking and baking. She was just as at home running a tiller or driving a tractor as she was in the kitchen baking bread. She kept 35 head of cattle, helped mow and bale hay, took care of chickens, milked cows and delivered calves.

She is survived by her older sister Shirley Roach, age 88, her beautiful children Judy Montgomery, Julie Montgomery, Steven Montgomery and his wife Cindy, Mikel Mortenson and his wife Nancy, Tony Mortenson, Kristine  (Krissy) Hudgins, Kenneth (Kenny) Mortenson, Kelly Mortenson, 17 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren and 5 great, great grandchildren.

We would like to thank June Metzger for being such a kind and loving friend. We are so grateful that the Lord brought you into our lives and that you were a friend with whom mom could share anything without fear of judgement.

There are no words that can sum up the 85 years of living that make up the story of her life. Her love for the Lord and her family are beyond question. You will be dearly missed Mom.
