Obituary

On October 16th, 2020, Paul Richard Kallgren left us to be with his dad. Paul was born on January 25th, 1955 in Ivanhoe, Minnesota to parents Richard and Carline Kallgren. Paul's family later moved to Epsom, New Hampshire where Paul graduated from Pembroke Academy in 1973. Paul joined the United Stated Coast Guard that same year and served as a Radarman aboard the USCG Cutter Hamilton. After his Honorable Discharge in 1976, Paul attended the East Coast Aero Tech school earning his license as an aircraft mechanic. Over the course of his career in aviation maintenance and repair Paul specialized in aviation engine accessories, working in the Engine Shop at AAR Western Skyways in Troutdale, Oregon, and as Accessory Shop Manager at Engine Components NW in Aurora, Oregon. Paul joined Precision Airmotive in Arlington, Washington in 1997 as a Technical Liaison and Chief Inspector specializing in carburetors. After leaving aviation maintenance in 2008, Paul joined Team Corporation in Burlington, Washington. At Team, Paul assembled and repaired vibration testing equipment and was able to travel the world working on that equipment.

To say Paul was friendly would be an understatement. Paul was always sporting a huge smile and was always interested in meeting new people. He was always ready to laugh, particularly if the laughs could be shared. His siblings tell of him loudly announcing the traffic light change from red to green by simply saying "GREEN!" the moment the light changed. The assumption is the driver was aware, but Paul would announce, just to be sure. Paul liked to live life to the fullest, sometimes to unwanted consequences. He would tell a story while in the Coast Guard whereupon he paid approximately $150 for two bottles of beer he brought on-board the ship. Apparently, the beer was not allowed per regulation. He would always state, with a big smile, the cost was steep, but the beer was good.

Always in search of fun and new things to try, Paul became a licensed pilot, scuba diver, downhill skier and was an avid motorcycle rider his whole life. Motorcycle riding was a great love of his. He had a 1973 Triumph Bonneville he rode for many years, among other bikes. At the end of his life he was putting together a 1970 Triumph TR6. Paul was an avid fan of motorsports of all types, particularly Formula 1 and 24 hours of Le Mans. For a time, Paul was a member of a local racing team as a driver and mechanic.

Throughout the family, and among his friends, Paul was known as a fixer. Paul could fix anything. That is said in a literal sense. If it were built by a person, anywhere, he could more than likely fix it when it was broken. When he fixed things, they almost always were better when he was done. Whether through his re-engineering, replacing worn parts for higher quality parts, or making existing parts or components just work better, you knew you had a better item than when you started if Paul fixed it for you.

Paul is survived by his lovely wife of 37 years, Sue, his mother Carline, sisters Marcia and Janet, and brothers Jim and Dan. In addition to being survived by his wife, mother, brothers and sisters, Paul is survived by his sons Brandon (Tammy) Kallgren, and Joel (Holly) Kallgren and daughter Trina (Steve) Uppendahl, granddaughters Brittney, Emily, Sarah, Grace, Brenna, Keira and Finley and grandson Alex. Paul was preceded in death by his father Richard in 1979.

Paul will be greatly missed, but his love of life, quick smile and love for his family and friends will live on in all our hearts.
