IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Patrick Dale
Berkey Sr.
August 30, 1950 – September 20, 2023
Patrick Dale Berkey Sr., of Camano Island, was born in Seattle, WA on August 30, 1950. He was the third child of seven children born to James Berkey Sr. and Thelma (Bruskland) Berkey. Pat grew up in Bellevue, WA and graduated from Newport High School in 1968.
After high school, Pat became a proud member of the IBEW. Upon completing his Apprenticeship, he became a Journeyman Lineman. It was a career that he loved, and was excellent at, which spanned five decades. During that time, Pat accomplished a great deal. He taught in the Apprenticeship Program at Shoreline Community College. He built power lines across North Alaska, and helped bring power to places that had never had it before. He worked all over the United States… wherever the toughest jobs were, Pat's crew could be found. He also gave voice to his fellow tradesmen by helping to negotiate fair union contracts. Pat was a very black and white kind of guy. If you worked hard and did your job, he would support you in any way he could. Of course, the reverse is also true: if he thought you did not have a good work ethic, he wouldn't hesitate to make his opinion known.
He met the love of his life, Jackie Swaner, in 1970, and married her in 1972. They welcomed twin girls, Kimmie and Karrie, in 1974 and their son, Patrick Jr, in 1977. They built a house in North Bend and lived there until moving to Camano Island in 1984, where Pat and Jackie built their dream home, with the help of family and friends. They created a life and a love that is the envy of many. Their first grandchild was born in 1992, and Pat instantly became the world's best grandpa! He loved his grandchildren beyond measure!
Pat didn't do things half-way. He decided he wanted a garden, so the next thing you know, there is a 20'x60' greenhouse in the yard. He decided he was going to feed the wildlife, so the next thing you know, there are generation after generation of deer coming to feed at the stump in his back yard. If he decided he loved you, he was the best kind of friend to have. When his people were in need, he would be the first to show up with tools, supplies, and a willingness to "git 'er done".
Pat is preceded in death by his parents Jim and Thelma, and father-in-law Shorty Swaner, as well as three of his brothers: Jimmy, Scott, and Jon. He will also be meeting his beloved dog, Natasha, on the other side.
He is survived by his loving wife Jackie, his mother-in-law Patricia Swaner, his sisters Sharon Ness and Suzie Baldwin and brother Gerry Berkey, his children Kimmie (Jacob) Farr, Karrie (Chad) Hildebrand, Patrick Berkey Jr., and his grandchildren Jay Steik, Cole Hildebrand, Kade Hildebrand, Carson Hildebrand, Kinley Hildebrand, Derick Farr and Olivia Farr, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He will also be greatly missed by his loyal dog, Zeus.
Pat's Memorial will be held October 15th at Gilbertson Funeral Home at 27001 88th Ave NW, Stanwood, WA at 11:00am. Immediately following will be a Celebration of Life at the Bonnie Susan Cole Hall at the Stanwood Camano Fairgrounds, located at 6431 Pioneer Hwy, Stanwood, WA.
