October 16, 1946 – September 12, 2023
Oisteen Boge, a native of Bergen, Norway, passed away on September 12th, 2023, after a life filled with dedication and service. Oisteen immigrated to the United States at a young age and enlisted in the 12th Marine Corps District at the age of 18. He served in Vietnam to defend his country where his specialty was a Fire Team Leader. Oisteen received numerous awards and recognitions during his service, including the Vietnam Service, National Defense Service, Vietnam Campaign, and Good Conduct medals.
After being honorably discharged from the military, Oisteen embarked on a fulfilling and successful career with the United Parcel Service. Throughout his time at UPS, Oisteen wore many hats, from the accounting department to loss prevention and he retired as a District Service Representative. Oisteen even filled necessary voids as needed and put on the UPS "Browns" to ensure packages were delivered in time for Christmas. Oisteen's dedication to his work earned him the admiration of colleagues and customers alike.
In retirement, Oisteen dedicated himself to the community. He served as both a devoted member and former President of the Stanwood-Camano Area Foundation and the Stanwood Lions Club. Decorating the local smokestack for holidays alongside his fellow Lions filled Oisteen with immense joy and satisfaction knowing their efforts brought happiness to the community. Oisteen was recognized by his peers as an efficient and thoughtful leader, known for achieving results that greatly enriched the community and his legacy is a testament to his humor, friendship, and commitment to improving the lives of others.
Beyond his dedication to service, Oisteen had a wide range of interests. He was an avid woodworker, enjoyed travelling and boating, and above all Oisteen was a loving family man who cherished time spent with loved ones.
Oisteen passed away after a long battle with kidney disease. He is survived by his son, David Boge, his wife Sally Boge, her three daughters Shawna Hughes, Jessie Grandpre, Deonna Monnahan, and their spouses, Ted Grandpre and Cole Monnahan, as well as his two beloved granddaughters, Sierra and Maeve Monnahan.
Oisteen supported many charitable organizations and was especially passionate about furthering education. His commitment to education led him to establish a scholarship fund that supports students in their pursuit of higher education. In honor of Oisteen's commitment to community and education, his family kindly requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Oisteen Boge Memorial Scholarship Fund through Stanwood-Camano Area Foundation: PO Box 1209, Stanwood, WA 92892, or online at www.s-caf.org.
A service will be at Tahoma National Cemetery at a date not yet determined.
Oisteen will be dearly missed, fondly remembered, and forever cherished as a patriot, a devoted husband, and a kind and generous man who enriched the lives of all fortunate enough to know him
