IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Oglaug Birgitte
Rygmyr
January 14, 1922 – December 10, 2017
Odlaug Birgitte "Addie" Rygmyr, age 95 of Franklin, TN, passed away peacefully on December 10, 2017. Addie was born and raised on a small island in Norway. During the Nazi occupation of Norway in World War II, Addie was working on a farm, and one of her memories of that time was slipping food to the Russian soldiers who were held there as prisoners of war. After the war, she moved to Oslo, where she worked for the British embassy. She immigrated to the United States in 1948. When she first moved to the United States, she worked as a maid for wealthy families, mostly in Seattle but also briefly in California. While in California, she worked at parties where the attendees included the Vanderbilt family and Clark Gable (he called her "honey"—a personal highlight). After becoming a U.S. citizen in 1954, Addie started working at Boeing in Seattle. During that time, she also met her future husband Chester. Addie left Boeing after the birth of her son David and was a devoted wife, mother and (eventually) grandmother and great-grandmother. She spent countless hours of service through her church and local Sons of Norway chapter, was a member of various bridge and other card groups, and never failed to bring the family together for a rousing game of Shanghai Rummy during the holidays. Addie is survived by her son David Rygmyr and his wife Lynda; her daughter Carol Fidler and her husband Bruce; her grandchildren, Benjamin Fidler and his wife Sanjeet, Brandon Fidler, Kory Twede and his wife Whitney, and Lars Rygmyr; and her great grandchild, Asher Twede. Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at Bethel World Outreach Church, with visitation one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Addie's memory to her home church in Stanwood, Washington. Donations may be sent to Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, 27201 99th Ave. NW, Stanwood, Washington 98292 or online at stanwoodoslc.org. Memorial services will be held Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, Stanwood. Private Family Graveside services will be held in the Anderson Cemetery, Stanwood. Arrangements under the direction of Gilbertson Funeral home, Stanwood.
