Nettie Stensaa, 98 passed away on February 18, 2009 at her home in Stanwood, WA.
She was born in Alberta, Canada on January 5, 1911 to Alex and Pauline Trynchuk.
She graduated high School at Canadian Jr. College and completed her Nurses training at Rest Haven Sanitarium and worked as a registered nurse for several years prior to her marriage.
Se met and married Ben Stenssa in November 1941 and they were married for 50 years.
They farmed in Stanwood, where she lived for more than 60 years. Together they raised six children and were actively involved with Cedarhome Seventh Day Adventist church school, where her children attended grade school. Nettie was an active member of the Adventist church and was church organist for many years. She also furnished the flowers and faithfully made bouquets for church. She loved flowers and grew a large flower garden and her home was surrounded with flower beds. She also grew a large vegetable garden until she was about 90.
She was a talented artist and painted many pictures in oils, painted china and made porcelain dolls. She enjoyed baking and was known for her homemade bread and blueberry desert. She worked at Josephine Sunset home for about 20 years, retiring at age 70 to care for her invalid husband for over 10 years. She cared for him by herself in the family home until his death at age 85. She enjoyed having her family around and the grandchildren who lived nearby grew up spending a lot of time playing on the farm and hanging out with grandma.
She will be greatly missed and her memory will be cherished.
She leaves her son Raymond Stensaa, daughters Carmen Knudson, Marie Perard, Eileen Christenson (Kelly), Kathy Powell (David), sister Josephine Letvin, 17 grandchildren 33 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ben, daughter Bonnie Palaniuk and granddaughter Tina Stensaa.
A graveside service will be held at Anderson Cemetery in Stanwood at 11:00 AM on February 23, 2009 with a memorial service to follow at 1:00 PM at Cedarhome Seventh Day Adventist Church & School, 28505 68th Ave. NW, Stanwood, WA 98292. A time of viewing and visitation will be held at Gilbertson Funeral Home 27001 88th Ave NW in Stanwood on Friday, February 20, 2009 from 9:00 Am until 4:30 and on Monday, February 23, 2009 from 8:30 AM until 10:00 AM.
