Nellie Mae (Norem) Hutter beloved wife and mother went to be with the Lord Thursday January12 at home surrounded by family.
She was born January 9, 1926 in Ottawa, Illinois to Harvey and Anna Norem the youngest of four children. She graduated from Newark High School and St. Olaf College, Northfield Minnesota in Social Work. She attended the Lutheran Bible Institute in Chicago where she met her husband, Bud. They were married in 1950 then he attended seminary in Fergus Falls, MN, after which they served churches in Malta MT, Lisbon and Aurora, IL.
The Hutters served as missionaries to Bolivia and returned to Bolivia a second term by driving a new International Harvester double cabin pickup from Illinois to the Panama Canal on the recently completed Pan-American Highway taking 28 days and going through 48 rivers. Then they went by ship to Peru completing the trip over a 15,000 ft mountain pass to La Paz, Bolivia. Traveling with 4 children from 3-9 yrs old she drew on her pioneer heritage from her grandparents who came from Stavanger,Norway to Illinois in the mid 1800s. A devoted wife and mother she was involved in the ministry often singing and playing piano and hosting the many guests and family who visited and stayed with them. She lived her life quietly but consistently showing the love of God in everything that she did.
After serving churches in Seattle and Seaview, WA, they retired to Camano Island. She is survived by her husband of 66 yrs, William (Bud) Hutter; son Bruce, daughters Norma Scott, Rhoda Ametsitsi (Julius), Debbie Campbell (Franklin), Cheryl Toilolo (Tavita), Grace Kline (John); brother James Norem; her sister in law Donna Norem, and 11 grandchildren.
Funeral service will be at Our Saviour's Lutheran, Stanwood, WA on January 21 at 11am followed by lunch and then internment at Camano Lutheran Cemetery.
