Nancy, 95, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Thanksgiving Day at Josephine Sunset Home in Stanwood, Washington. She was the second to youngest of nine children of Garrard Wallis and Grace Thornton.
Wallis, and was born on her family's farm in Bowman, Georgia. When she was two years old her family moved to Atlanta, Georgia. Nancy had a strong and loving family, and had many colorful stories to tell. In 1938, she graduated from Girls' High School in Atlanta. She worked in civil service during World War II, and met her husband Don Curtis during a visit to California in 1945. Nancy and Don married in 1946, and had two daughters, Donna (Bloechl) and Linda (Galen). The family resided in Honolulu, the San Francisco Bay Area, Tokyo, Japan, and Orange County, California. Nancy's husband died young, at age 43, after twenty years of marriage. She showed great strength in rebuilding her life, establishing a career in accounting, and making sure that both of her daughters completed college. We are grateful for her long life, independent spirit, loyalty to family, humor, and good sense.
Nancy was preceded in death by her father and mother, her brothers Allen, John Thornton, Robert, and Joseph, her sisters Frances (Box), Virginia (Denmark), Juanita (Hildebrand), and Dorothy Sue (White), and her son-in-law Gene Bloechl.
She is survived by her daughters Donna Bloechl and Linda Galen (partner Linda Mills) and her four grandchildren Drew Bloechl, Jamison Bloechl, Susan Meyers, and Luke Meyers.
There will be a private family memorial at a future date.
