Beloved Husband
Milton Donald (Don) Kirkwood, 75, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born at Dry Falls State Park, WA September 17, 1936, to Milton and Dorothy Kirkwood. Growing up in Seattle, he graduated from Franklin High School in 1954.
He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Nancy Lea and children, Jim and Jennifer. Don is survived by his wife, Carole; stepsons, Greg and Chris Kaufman; brother, Lewis, and sister in law, Janice; nieces Angela Barsch and Paige Mason and their families,
Don accomplished much in his life, overcoming cerebral palsy and the tragic loss of his first family. He served 4 years in the U.S. Navy and then attended University of Washington majoring in ceramic engineering. Sports car rallying was an early passion, and he and Dexter Walter won many trophies together, including the Northwest Championship in 1962. He became a Locomotive engineer for the Burlington Northern and served two terms as president of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers. He was proud to be a Shiner and Mason and also served as president and was citizen of the year for the Lake Goodwin Community Club. Don was a wonderful husband to Carole and a great stepdad to Greg and Chris and will be forever in their hearts.
Funeral Service will be held 11:00 am Saturday, August 25, 2012 in the chapel of Gilbertson Funeral Home Stanwood. Interment Tahoma National Cemetery Kent WA
