MICHAEL DAVID UPTON
October 8, 1948 - March 7, 2016
Michael "Mike" David Upton, 67, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, March 7, 2016.
Michael was born October 8, 1948 in Lompoc, California to Charles and Gladys Upton. He lived in California until he was drafted into the Army and served in the Vietnam War from 1966-1967, 4th Battalion, 47th Infantry, 9th Division. Michael was a proud member of Stanwood's American Legion Post #92.
Michael moved to Washington where he met his wife Carol (Anderson) Upton. They had 2 children, Katie and Zach. Michael worked and retired from the Stanwood School District after 22 years.
Michael's favorite past time was Baseball. His love for the game lead him to umpiring. He spent most of his weekends traveling throughout the state umpiring girls fast pitch softball. He also coached girls softball at Stanwood High School for a number of years. Michael was a BIG Spartan fan. He attended nearly all Stanwood High School games, football, basketball, wrestling, baseball and softball, even traveling to post season games.
Michael was a hard worker who always put his family first. He was a man of few words but always had a quick witted remark to make you laugh. The spark in his eye and his contagious smile will be greatly missed. He truly was one of a kind.
He is survived by his wife, Carol; his children, Katie (Eric) Anderson and Zach Upton (Fiance', Mari Tinajero); granddaughter, Adelyn; sisters Gail (Buck) Rogers and Terry Sistrunk.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Becky.
At Michael's request there will be no funeral service. A scholarship fund is being set up in his name to support his love for the kids. Donations may be sent to Stanwood-Camano Area Foundation (SCAF) to the Michael Upton Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 1209 Stanwood, WA 98292 or to a charity of your choice.
