Michael James Smith

Michael Smith, a longtime resident of Stanwood, passed away unexpectedly on September 19, 2026, at the age of 55. Born on September 29, 1970 to Jim and Beverly Smith, Michael moved with his family to Stanwood when he was in the first grade. He remained deeply connected to the community he called home, where he formed lasting friendships and cherished memories throughout his life.

Michael graduated from Stanwood High School in 1989. Following graduation, he proudly joined the United States Army and served during Desert Storm. After his military service, Michael returned home to Stanwood.

A talented mechanic, Michael had a natural ability to understand how things worked and a gift for fixing just about anything. He was happiest working with his hands, whether repairing machinery, working on a farm, or helping those around him. His hard work, practical nature, and willingness to lend a hand will be remembered by all who knew him.

Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Beverly (Smith) Inman.

He is survived by his sister, Valori (Nestor) Vargas; his brother, Dave (Nicole) Smith; and his niece, Allie and nephew, Weston, along with extended family and friends who will miss him dearly.

Michael's life will be remembered and celebrated by family, friends, and members of the community who had the privilege of knowing him.

A celebration of Michael's life will be held at the Bonnie Susan Cole Building in Stanwood on October 25, 2026, at 1:00. Family and friends are invited to gather, share memories, and celebrate the life of a man who will be deeply missed.
