Obituary

Melba Jean Wegner (97) died suddenly of an intestinal complication at Skagit Valley Hospital, Mount Vernon, on October 24, 2016. She was the daughter of Leslie and Edna (Glidden) Gardner. Born in Parsons, Kansas, August 24, 1919, she moved to Seattle at an early age and grew up in Bothell where she met her husband, Herbert (Bud) Wegner to whom she was devoted to for 52 years. With Bud, she was a longtime resident of Bothell, Snohomish and Camano Island where she resided for the past thirty years. She graduated from Bothell High School in 1936 and attended the University of Washington, worked as a secretary in Seattle and then became a loving homemaker and mother. She also traveled extensively across the U.S., South America and Europe visiting her children. She was also an avid reader maintaining all of her memories and kept sharp mental powers to the end. She was also a loyal sports fan, following the WSU Cougars, UW Huskies, the Seattle Mariners and the Seattle Seahawks until her dying day.
Jean is survived by her three children and their spouses: son, Gary and Cynthia Kay (Cornish NH), daughter Merrilee and Thomas Pollak (Pucon Chile) and son Greg and Karen (Chelan WA), ten grandchildren, thirteen great grandsons and one great granddaughter.
The Family will have a private ceremony but plan for a memorial in 2017. Jean will be greatly missed by her family and many friends who appreciated her kindness and good humor. She always lived with honor and dignity, was devoted to her family and friends and admired by all.
