MAXINE MAE SHROYER

Maxine was born to Conrad and Abigail Axelson in Mount Vernon Washington. She grew up in Fir Island Washington working in the fields. She attended school on Fir Island , with her sister Genevieve as her elementary teacher, Conway Middle School and graduated from Mt Vernon High School at the age of 17 in 1947. She enjoyed her friends, playing tennis and the cello in the orchestra during high school.

Maxine is survived by her children: Penny Lee (Bob), Scott Shroyer (Janet), Kirk Shroyer (Mary) and Barry Shroyer ( Gina) Grandchildren: Scott Shroyer Jr ( Tiffany) Adam Shroyer ( Kristen) Melissa Shroyer, Lindsay Harper ( Warren) Joel Shroyer and Chelsey Bergh (Dallas) She has 54 beautiful Great- Grandchildren Kayley, Emma, Jack, Layne and a new Great Grandson on the way, Sister in Law, Donna Shroyer and nieces and nephews.

Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, Harry, her sister, Genevieve Sibley, and brother, Norman Axelson.

She graduated from Western Washington Teachers College and taught 2nd grade in Stanwood. In 1951, Maxine married the love of her life Harry Shroyer and they began their family.

She enjoyed her children's activities keeping busy with Church activities, sports, Cub Scouts, Camp Fire and school activities. She never missed one of the children's activities. She was a very active member of Our Saviour's Lutheran church (ladies circle, alter guild, door greeting) Maxine found her social time by bowling in the Twin City Housewives league, playing Bridge with the ladies and her Avon ladies luncheons. She enjoyed tutoring special children and selling Avon during these busy years. Actually, returning to college in 1976 to renew her certification to continue to work with tutoring and occasionally substitute teaching.

In 1991, Harry finally retired and they were able to purchase a motorhome and travel. They spent many winters traveling the US and eventually enjoying Lake Havasu, Arizona as their winter residence. They enjoyed spending time together and cruising and traveling to Hawaii, San Juan, Australia, Trinidad and Tobago just to name a few. Bob and Penny especially enjoyed their yearly trips with them to Reno, Las Vegas and Laughlin.

Maxine loved to play games (gamble) and win! Nickels, dimes. Quarters- she was very competitive.

Christmas was a special time for Maxine, decorations, cards, food, gifts etc. We all had our "Honey do" lists and deadline to get it done in. There were very few acceptable excuses to miss Christmas Eve- Many wonderful memories there.

Maxine was truly a lady she believed in the best in everyone and encouraged all to be that person.

Maxine spent the last few years at Where the Heart Is in Burlington Washington. We'd like to thank them for their care and concern.
