Obituary

The world became a better place when Mary was born in Everett to Carl and Christine Woge. She graduated from Marysville High School in 1949 and attended Everett Business College. She worked a variety of jobs as a nanny, serving at Hilltop Drive In, then employed at Marysville State Bank.

In 1951 she journeyed to California to work at a TV program called "Church in the Home" where she met the love of her life, Arnold. They were married on October 4, 1957. They built their own home in Stanwood on 30 acres, where they adopted Lisa in 1962 and Greg in 1964. Arne was born in 1968 and Eric followed in 1970.

Mary's faith began when she received Christ as her Savior on August 1, 1943 and was later baptized. She volunteered as Sunday School Superintendent for 40 years at Stanwood Assembly of God, now called New View Church, where she was the oldest member.

Always community oriented, she started volunteering at Stanwood Schools in 1980, substituting in 1982, and being hired fulltime in 1984. Her responsibilities included recess supervision, library, bus duty, and tutoring in reading. Mary gave each child at Stanwood Primary a personal birthday card for over 20 years! The staff honored her on her 80th birthday and she retired at age 86. A year later she was the Grand Marshall of the Stanwood Parade.

One highlight of her service in education was receiving the Washington State Classified Employee Award in 2008 at the State Capitol. Mary's greatest legacy was her love and positive influence on children. Just as Christ said, "Let the little children come to me" in Matt. 19:14a, Mary spent countless hours teaching them of God's love and truths.

Mary taught by her actions. She showed hospitality by preparing and hosting meals. Her strong work ethic was evident on their farm, gardening and raising cattle. Mary's love for life ranged from visiting family and friends locally to traveling to Scandinavian countries. She mastered the joy of giving to others. Like the many puzzles she enjoyed completing, we will all hold a piece of her in our hearts.

She is preceded in death by her husband Arnold (2019) and son Greg (2017) as well as brothers Ken, Carl, and Arnold Woge. Surviving her is her brother Chet and daughter Lisa (Michael), and sons Arne (Diane) and Eric Wennerberg. Her ten grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren loved her very much.

A celebration of life service will be held at Cedarhome Baptist Church on January 25th at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to New View c/o Missions P.O. Box 1630 Stanwood, Wa. 98292.
