Obituary

Lorraine Van Brocklin passed on peacefully on February 24, 2024 at Warm Beach, Washington with her daughters Kristi and Gretchen at her side.  She was 93 years old.

She was born in Mt. Vernon, Washington on March 27, 1930 and grew up in LaConner, Washington with her mother LaVerne, father Louis (Lud) and her brother Duane.

She met the love of her life, Bill Van Brocklin, while working on and receiving her B.A. in education at Western Washington University in Bellingham, Washington.  They were married in Mt.Vernon on March 23, 1952. They raised their daughters Kristi and Gretchen at their beloved home at Warm Beach.

Her teaching career included teaching in both the Stanwood and Arlington school districts.  She retired from Arlington school district after 25 years of teaching grade 1.

After retirement, Lorraine and Bill traveled the world visiting over 40 countries.

When Bill passed in 2002, Lorraine enjoyed many clubs and hobbies.  She was always active in her community including garden club, Red Hats, Warm Beach Community Club, Master Gardner, Mexican Train and Bridge clubs. She donated her time to the Stanwood Food Bank, Christmas House and the youth group in her church. Gardening at her home was her passion. She loved feeding the birds and hummingbirds.  Watching them was a joy in her life.

Lorraine was always in the kitchen getting ready for your arrival and greeting you with food and a smile.  She loved to host parties and meals and made everything beautiful.  You always knew it was Christmas when you walked through the door and smelled the delicious food and dessert.

Her husband, Bill Van Brocklin, preceded her in death.

She is survived by her daughters Kristi (Dennis) and Gretchen (Bill).  Grandchildren Lars (Alyssa), Karl (Paul), Geordan (Jackie), Jamie, Tyler and Sarah (Daniel).  Great Grandchildren Nathan and Logan. She has many nieces and nephews that loved her.

Lorraine's celebration of life will be held at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Stanwood on April 13 at 1 pm.  A reception will follow in the fellowship hall.
