IN LOVING MEMORY OF

Sundberg
May 29, 1930 – December 7, 2021
MARY D. SUNDBERG (WAGNESS)
Mary Darlene Sundberg of Mount Vernon passed away December 7, 2021.
Mary was born in Everett, WA on May 29, 1930 to Stanley and Alice Wagness. She graduated from Twin City High School in 1948 and proudly served on the cheerleading squad for three years. Mary remained close to her classmates over the years and planned many class reunions. Mary spent much of her life as a Stanwood resident and was very proud of her heritage.
In 1948, Mary entered nurse's training and she graduated as a registered nurse in 1951. On February 9, 1952, she married her high school sweetheart, Earl Sundberg, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Stanwood, where Mary was also baptized and confirmed. Mary and Earl later celebrated 65 years of marriage.
Mary saw many medical advancements and had a variety of experiences during her nursing career. She proudly kept her nursing license active for 65 years!
Steven and Jane joined the family in 1957 and 1960. Mary loved the fulfillment of raising two children and she enjoyed life to the fullest. She was a fantastic cook, loved entertaining, and was famous for her Swedish pancakes and Swedish meatballs. After retirement, Mary and Earl spent many years "snow-birding" with family and close friends in Arizona. Mary truly loved her family and friends and we will all miss her very much.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Stanley and Alice Wagness, husband Earl, brother Stanley, and many cousins and in-laws.
Mary is survived by her loving companion Gerald Olmstead, son Steven (Cindy), daughter Jane Swartz (Rick), lifelong friends Dennis and Shirley Anderson, sister-in-law June Landry, and many nieces, nephews, and a host of dear friends.
A private family graveside service will be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Stanwood or the Stanwood Camano Food Bank.
