Marian Turner, beloved wife, mother and grandmother passed away at her home on Camano Island November 27, 2014, Thanksgiving Day. Marian was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Robert Jensen Turner. She was 86 years old.
Marian Turner, née Edna Marian Hansen, was born at home in Stanwood, WA to Hans and Edna Hansen. She grew up on Camano Island from the age of 10 months where as a youngster she met her future husband, Robert J. Turner. After Bob returned home from WWII and Marian began work as a bank teller the couple married and built their home next to Bob's parents in Seattle. There they raised their three children Gayle M. Turner, Jeffrey R. Turner and W. Bradley Turner.
In 1980 Marian and Bob retired to live at Utsalady where Marian had been raised by her foster parents Ralph and Mabel Larsen. The move was a homecoming that carried deep meaning for Bob and Marian. It was Marian's desire to live out her life in the house she and her husband built there. She loved the beach, her volunteer work with the Utsalady Ladies Aid, participation in the Stanwood United Methodist Church and Terry's Corner Fire Jets among other community activities. But as she wrote of herself, "Her greatest pleasure was working outdoors in the yard knowing she was close to God."
Marian leaves her three children noted above, in addition to her daughter-in-law Susan Elizabeth Turner, wife of Jeffrey Turner, and her granddaughter, Alta Marian Turner, daughter of Gayle Turner.
A memorial service will be held at Stanwood United Methodist Church, 27128 102nd Drive NW 98292 on December 30, 2014 at 2 PM followed by a reception at the church. Marian requested that in lieu of flowers memorials may be made in her memory to the Stanwood United Methodist Church, the Stanwood Area Historical Society, or a charity of your choice.
Arrangements under the direction of Gilbertson Funeral Home, Stanwood, WA.
