Obituary

Margery Dee (Lovgreen) McGhan, of Silvana, passed away peacefully on August 28, 2023, surrounded by her family.

Margie was born June 6, 1949 in Seattle, WA  to Claire and John Lovgreen. She spent her childhood in Silvana, WA on the family dairy farm. It was also in Silvana that she attended grade school in a four room school house. She then attended and graduated from Arlington High School in 1967, taking great joy in all the activities (yearbook, drill team, pep club, etc.) and friendships she made there. Not long after graduating, she met the love of her life, Marvin McGhan. They were married on June 8, 1968. They soon settled down in Silvana, buying property from her parents. For the next 30 years, they raised their family while Marv worked at Boeing and Margie stayed home, taking care of their three children and their small farm.

During those years, Margie became a leader for the Stanwood Hope 4's 4-H club, working tirelessly at the Silvana, Stanwood, and Evergreen State Fairs. She instilled the love of crafting and animal care, not just in her own children, but in all those she was lucky enough to work with. This was also the time when Marv and Margie bought their first travel trailer and discovered a love for camping and road trips to see family in North Dakota. Besides finding delight in travel, Margie also found a passion for genealogy and gardening, specifically growing, caring for, and selling dahlias. She quickly earned the nickname, "the Dahlia Lady", and was overjoyed to share her love of these flowers with anyone and everyone.

Once Marv retired and the kids were out of the house, they rediscovered their love of travel. From cruises to Alaska and Europe, to countless trips to the ocean and national parks, they delighted in new adventures, meeting new people, and seeing the beauty of the world. Margie loved reading, scrapbooking, being outside, and visiting with family and friends both near and far, but most of all, she loved her family.

Margie is survived by her best friend and loving husband of 55 years, Marv; three children, Kimberly (Jeff) Harrison, Amy Fry, and Michael McGhan; three grandchildren, Shane, Logan, and Claire; sister, Marion Severud; brother, Mick (Cheryl) Lovgreen; sister-in-law, Cheryl Lovgreen; brother-in-law, Tony Bruscas; brother-in-law, Robert (Kathy) McGhan; cousin, Heidi Lyons; along with many beloved nieces and nephews.

Margie was preceded in death by her parents, John and Claire Lovgreen; her twin brother, Marvin Lovgreen; and her sister, Marilou Bruscas.

No memorial service is immediately planned. The family will notify loved ones in the future when a service is scheduled.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital Memorial Giving 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105, or Swedish Medical Center at https://swedishfoundation.org/ways-to-give/ways-to-give/memorial-giving.
