Obituary

Lyle Howard Ottem was born to Harold Edwin Ottem and Edna Lydia Dux-Ottem

On August 14, 1928 at the family home located in Silvana, Washington. Lyle attended grammar school at Silvana School until 1942. He graduated from Arlington High School in 1946. Lyle worked on the family Dairy farm until he was drafted in the military on November 3, 1950. At age 22 Lyle joined The Army and served with Company C 140th Tank Battalion during The Korean Conflict. On June 13, 1952 Lyle's tank was hit by enemy fire and he was severely injured. Lyle was awarded A Purple Heart for which he was very proud of. After his time in the service Lyle went to work for a brief time at The Boeing Company in Everett. Lyle was married to Marion and Elaine. Lyle moved to Seattle and started his career as a mail carrier with The United States Postal Service. In 1977 Lyle married Eleanore Joyce Aursness they were married for 22 years until Eleanore's death in 1999. Lyle enjoyed spending time at his Uncle Lloyd's farm in Othello. Bird hunting and spending time with his cousins David and Marty brought him lots of happiness. One of his favorite memories he spoke of often was delivering hay with David. Lyle sold his home in West Seattle and purchased a condominium in Cle Elum, Washington that he shared with Evelyn Modesky. Lyle and Evelyn enjoyed wintering in Cabo San Lucas. Lyle met his caregiver and friend Stacy Van Vleck in 2005; In 2016 Lyle and Stacy went on The Inland Northwest Honor Flight; honoring veterans for their service during war. Lyle enjoyed fishing after his retirement from the Postal Service. He fished local lakes and ponds in Washington and two of his favorite places to fish were Cabo and Alaska. Lyle remained in his home until his passing on November 15, 2020.

Lyle is predeceased by his wife Eleanore, parents Harold and Edna Ottem, Brother Harold Edwin Ottem Jr. Lyle is survived by niece Cheryl Ottem-Gough, several cousins David Ottem (Lou), Nancy (Bob) Fischer, Wayne Ottem, Diane (Jerry) Krogel, Gail (Chris) Morris, Johnny Pedersen, Marilyn Wegley, Denny (Janet) Reese, Janet (Dick) Sublett, Marianne (Fred) Meyer and Carolyn Eichhorn, Anita Olson and Gloria Schuh, Sister in law Dee Ottem. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Inland Northwest Honor Flights, Make A Wish Foundation or The American Cancer Society.
