IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lowell V
Olsen
January 25, 1922 – April 2, 2018
Lowell Vernon Olsen of Camano Island, Wa
1922-2018
Lowell Vernon Olsen (96) passed away peacefully in his home into the loving arms of Jesus, April 2nd, 2018.
He was born January 25th, 1922 to Richard and Olufine Olsen in Bellingham, Washington.
He was 17 when WWII broke out and served the duration of the war. His mother at first refused. His older brother, Lionel, was already serving in the Army. Then he found a program the Navy offered in training for radar and his mother agreed to sign for that. He served as a Radio Technician in Brazil.
He returned home and studied at WU where he met his future wife, Barbara. They were married March 27th, 1948. Lowell graduated from University of Washington in 1951.
He started his career at Boeing, then joined Northrop Corp in the Electronics Division in 1955.
His greatest work accomplishment was designing the navigational system for the B-2 Stealth Bomber. He retired from Northrop after 25 years.
Lowell's greatest joy were his girls and his grandchildren. He loved them unconditionally and sacrificed selflessly. He was a great Dad.
Lowell and Barbara enjoyed many trips around. Around 1972, Lowell made a personal decision to receive Jesus as his Lord and Savior. Lowell walked his entire life with love, integrity and character. He was selfless, humble, kind, compassionate and a man of peace.
When Lowell retired, he and Barbara moved from California to Camano Island and built their dream house, for their children and grandchildren to enjoy.
Lowell cared for his wife, Barbara, when she became ill in 2014. When Barbara passed away in 2015, Deborah moved to live with Lowell. He is survived by his 3 daughters, Deborah Speechly, Pam and son-in-law Ralph Hatley, and Judy Miller; his grandchildren; Kristen Blodget and Michelle Blodget, Laura and son-in-law, Chad Taylor, Kathryn Hunter, Patrick Hunter, Caroline Miller, Cody Miller and Kyle Miller; plus nieces and nephews, and his first grandson on the way, Jaden Taylor.
Lowell has 3 grandchildren who also served in the Navy-Laura, Caroline and now Patrick.
Lowell is greatly loved and will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
There will be a private burial service Friday, April 5th and a Celebration of Life luncheon for close friends and family.
