Obituary

Lester S Anderson, 90, of Stanwood passed away Sunday, February 8, 2009. Les was born May 19, 1918 in North Dakota where his family farmed. Les and his brother worked in the C.C.C.'s to support their family during the Dust Bowl Era. The family moved to Stanwood, Washington where they once again farmed. In June of 1942 Les left to serve in World War II in the US Army 1st Armored Division in Africa and then Italy. Though a shy, country boy, Les was proud of the sacrifice made to protect his country. Ten days after his return to the U.S. he married his sweetheart Virginia Hansen of Stanwood. The couple enjoyed 63 years of marriage. Les worked and retired from Twin City Foods. Les was preceded in death by his mother and father William and Alma Anderson, brothers Stanley, Jay and Walt Anderson. He is survived by his loving wife Virginia; Son Lonnie Anderson (Marlene); daughters Marlene Crisp, Rosanne Johnson and Lorraine Hatch (Frank). Grandchildren Julie and Brian Anderson, Debra Graff (Barney), Sean Crisp (Nikki), Rebecca Musgrave (Dan), Jenna Plant (Andy), Melinda Lewis (Mike), Tricia Atwell (Aaron), Jessica Jansma (Randy), Rhonda Urich (Frank), Cindi Hatch, Sheri Hannum (Jason). Les also leaves 11 Great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and wonderful friends who will miss him greatly. He will be long remembered for his gentle ways, quick wit and fun sense of humor. A memorial service will be held at Gilbertson's Funeral Home on Thursday, February 12th at 11 AM.
