Obituary

Lawrence Dwight "Skip" Hood passed away on Thursday, December 12th in Mount Vernon after a short hospital stay.



Skip was born in Wayne, Kansas on February 4th, 1936 to William and Martha Hood - the youngest of three children. He grew up and graduated high school in Denver, Colorado. Skip proudly served as a Sergeant in the US Marine Corps until 1958. He soon met the first love of his life Marlea Tholen. They were married and moved to Stanwood, WA in 1964. They were blessed with son Tracy and daughter Tanya.



The family soon moved to Coal Harbor, BC Canada where Skip worked as a logging camp supervisor. After a few years, the family returned to home to Stanwood. Skip held various jobs over the years in Stanwood including; the city of Stanwood, the Viking Village Grocery,Triway Manufacturing, and as a self-employed long-haul truck driver.



Skip lost his first love to cancer in 1977 when Marlea passed away. By God's grace, Skip found the second love of his life in long-time friend LaVonne (Moen) Perry. Together since 1982, they married in 1990 and were simply inseparable They worked together at Bayliner in Arlington for many years until Skip retired in 1998.



Over the years Skip enjoyed coaching little league, serving as a volunteer firefighter and EMT, camping, fishing, and was a proud member of: Camper's 31 Club, Eagles FOE 3041, American Legion Post 92, and was an avid Seahawks fan.



Skip was preceded in death by his parents William & Martha Hood, sister Frieda, brother Bill, and first wife Marlea.



He is survived by: his wife, LaVonne; his son Tracy Hood and his children Marlea Hood, Karissa Hood, and Kellan Hood; his daughter Tanya (Given) Kutz and their children Allison Kutz, Emilee (Cody) Slater, Given Joshua (Katie) Kutz, and great-granddaughter Evelyn Sue Kutz. He is also survived by stepsons Doug (Karen) Perry, Kevin Perry, Todd Perry and stepdaughter Michelle (Mike) Hanson along with 6 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, brothers-in-law Dallas Moen, Dexter (Karen) Moen, and sister-in-law Sandra (Alfred) Smith as well as special granddaughters Carina and Tammara Perry.



A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday, February 8, 2014 at the American Legion Hall, 27001 88th Ave NW Stanwood, WA 98292. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Stanwood-Camano Little League, PO Box 455, Stanwood, WA 98292.
