LaVerne Anna (Bonnar) Quillin
Oct. 24, 1922- Feb. 1, 2020
LaVerne passed away peacefully on the morning of Feb. 1st. at the Mira Vista Care Center in Mt. Vernon Wash. at 97 years of age.
She was born and raised in Port Angeles and was one of the last remaining students of the Class of 1940. After high school she went to the UW and then to Business College in Seattle, which lead to a career of bookkeeping.
She became a War bride when she met Ted Quillin at a USO dance in Port Angeles and they were married on Jan. 20, 1944. They were married 51 years until Ted passe away in 1995.
LaVerne had many hobbies such as camping, fishing, crossword puzzles, reading, painting the kitchen every summer and feeding all the cats in the neighborhood. She lived in the Stanwood/Mt. Vernon area over 70 years.
She was a proud member of the Daughters of the America Revolution (DAR) with our ancestors coming to West Virginia in 1738 from Scotland by way of Ireland. William Bonar II was a patriot and fought for the Commonwealth of Virginia against George III, King of England in the Revolutionary War 1775-1783. William knew and was friends with Patrick Henry, "Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death!" One of the founding fathers and Governor of Virginia.
LaVerne was preceded in death by her husband Ted, oldest son Jim, infant son Larry and her parents. She is survived by her 3 sons and daughter-in-laws, Ted & Rhonda, Greg & Kim, and Dave & Val. Grandchildren Kim, Mike, Melissa, Kristina, Jenny, Josh, Brandee, & Brandon, and 10 Great Grandchildren.
After struggling with dementia a number of years, Mom is at eternal peace.
As she wished there will be no service. Donations can be made to the Stanwood Camano Food Bank.
