IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Larry Ernest
Sande
July 4, 1943 – December 9, 2023
Born on July 4, 1943, Larry Sande, a third-generation dairy farmer and lifelong Stanwood resident, passed away December 9, 2023, leaving a legacy of hard work, adventure, and family ties. From an early age, Larry embraced working on the family dairy farm, eventually taking over the farm from his father. Larry and his wife, Jessica loved raising their three children next door to Larry's parents, Ernest and Leona. The farm became a cornerstone of their life, fostering a close-knit family environment.
In addition to working the dairy farm he was also an independent contractor. In his early 20s, he purchased his first dragline excavator which began his journey as a dragline operator. His work spanned throughout Snohomish and Skagit County earning him friendships and a reputation for getting the job done. He loved responding to the question, "What do you do for work?" – "I dig ditches for a living" which reflected his humility and humor.
At the age of 19, Larry's interest in aviation took off as he acquired his first airplane. He would often tell stories of embarking on daring aerial maneuvers purely for the thrill. His passion for speed became a defining aspect of his life, reflecting a love for adventure that stayed with him throughout the years. In addition to his aerial pursuits, Larry treasured his 1965 GTO and reveled in the joy of owning and riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle.
Larry's retirement years were a blend of hard work and family. Whether he was driving tractors for fellow Stanwood farmers, digging potatoes, or picking corn for the food bank, Larry was always a farm boy at heart. He continued to be the official lawn care person for much of his extended family, a duty he approached with a passion. Larry also dedicated numerous years to volunteering at Josephine Sunset Home, providing support and friendship to both residents and staff alike.
Larry is survived by his wife of 56 years Jessica, his children Jim (Marybeth) Sande, Krista (Steve) Stogner, grandchildren Jordan (Allison) Sande, Jack, Jacob, and Joseph Sande, Mali and Andrew Stogner, Jonah Johnson, and great-grandson Lucian Sande. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ernest & Leona Sande, son, Steven Sande, and sister, Joyleen Fein. Larry will be remembered for his adventurous spirit and unwavering commitment to those he loved.
A memorial service to celebrate Larry's life will be held on Saturday, January 13, at 1:00 at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Stanwood. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in memory of Larry.
