Obituary

Our beloved husband and father, Kenneth Emerson Day went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on August 7, 2011. The youngest of four children, Ken was born in Alliance, OH, on August 12, 1937 to Harold and Estella Day. After completing his chiropractic training at Palmer College in Davenport, IA, he met his wife Margaret Sayre Dodgson from Camano Island at Emmaus Bible College in Oak Park, IL. They were married in 1960 and moved to Stanwood, WA, in 1963 where he established and maintained a chiropractic practice until 2000. Last summer, with much joy and thanksgiving, Ken and Margaret celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with their growing family.
Ken served on the city council and then was mayor of Stanwood for ten years. He was a charter member of Rotary, chaplain of the Christian Chiropractors Association, and was active in many other community activities. Together with his wife, Ken gave many years of ministry to their church and Christian missions in expression of their love for the gospel and the kingdom of God. Ken's life was a testimony of his faith in Jesus Christ.
He is survived by Margaret, his wife of 51 years, and his 5 children: Deborah (Monte) Ruble of Conway, WA, David (Karen) of Portland, OR, Daniel (Gina) of Vinita, OK, John of Longbranch, WA, and Elizabeth (Sarah) of Stockton, CA. He also leaves behind 17 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren and his siblings Doris (Dick) Livengood, Janet Vick, and Jimmy (Mary Ann), all of Alliance, OH.
Kenneth passed away at Skagit Valley Hospital surrounded by his loving wife and children. Ken's enthusiastic zest for life and optimistic outlook made him a joy to be around. He was a devoted husband, tender-hearted father, compassionate doctor, and a caring friend. His whole life was flavored with a joyful appreciation and expression of music. The way he lived continues to be a model for his family to follow. He will be greatly missed by us all.
A graveside service will be held on August 19 at 11:00 am for family and close friends at Anderson Cemetery in Stanwood. Those wishing to share with the family are invited to a memorial service celebrating Ken's life and faith at Summit Park Bible Church, 12700 Thompson Rd Anacortes, WA 98221, at 1:30 pm. This will be followed by a time of refreshment and reminiscing.
Arrangements under the direction of Gilbertson Funeral Home, Stanwood.
