Scotty was born in Jay, Oklahoma on August 5, 1925. He moved to Everett, Washington as a youth where he met his bride-to-be Alvina Goldthorpe. They were both 18 years old when they married on October 9, 1943. Shortly after their wedding, Scotty was drafted into the US Army where he served oversees during World War II. (He met his son Lanny for the first time when he was three months old.) Scotty and Alvina had four children: Lanny, Lynn, Patty and Donnie. For many years as his children grew up, the family lived in South Lake Stevens. In 1990, he and Alvina moved to their home on Camano Island.
Scotty worked as a carpenter for most of his adult life, many of those years as a foreman for Newland Construction Company. He loved and adored his family and was active in Scouting with his sons and as the coach for his daughter's sofball team. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and spent many seasons on yearly hunting trips with his boys and the Pitman brothers, and camping and fishing trips to Canada and Jamison Lake with the whole family and close friend the Colvins. He especially enjoyed holding and loving on his grandchildren and the neighbors kids, and visits and holidays with family, extended family and friends.
Scotty passed away at home on October 19 while sleeping peacefully beside his wife of 73 years Alvina, Besides his loving wife, he is survived by his sister Jean Lehman; children Lanny, Lynn (Bill) Rich, Patty Pederson, Donnie (Rhonda Guilford); along with seven grandchildren - Eric (Robin) Crowley, Connie (Chad) Stone, Richelle (Michel) Melseaux, Monica Scott, Jackie (Dan) Raby, Greg Pederson, and Jodi (Steve) Sutton, eight great grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren; God- daughter Brandie (Nolan) Perkl, their sons and her mom Lynn Hayford; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Martha Scott, his brothers Leo Dopp and Donal Scott, and his sisters Irene Olson and Betty Cearley.

Services will be held on Wednesday, October 26 at 2:00 p.m. at Gilbertson Funeral Home, Stanwood, WA (viewing from 10-2).
