Joe Scott Curre, 77, of Camano Island, Washington, passed away peacefully in his sleep on May 1, 2026, after a long and courageous battle with chronic illnesses.
Joe was born on April 24, 1949, in Los Angeles, California, and was raised in Bellevue, Washington, by his parents, Melva Earl and Ed Curre.
He served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War era on three aircraft carriers: the USS Bennington, USS Ticonderoga, and USS Hornet. He often shared stories from his time on the carriers that his family loved hearing and will continue to carry with them.
After leaving the Navy, Joe built a 32-year career at The Boeing Company in Quality Assurance, where he was known for his dedication and strong work ethic.
Joe had a deep love of the outdoors. He found joy in a variety of activities, including skiing & snowshoeing, golf, tennis, fishing, camping, hiking, canoeing, and kayaking. He loved to travel, his attendance at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Canada and 2015 U.S. Open Golf Championship being highlights. He especially treasured his last fantastic trip to Italy and Greece. He was happiest near the water, and Cannon Beach held a special place in his heart. One of his favorite pastimes was geocaching, which gave him and his wife, Cora, the opportunity to explore new places together across the United States and Europe.
In 1975, Joe met his soulmate, Cora Digges, and they spent the rest of their lives together. He was a family man through and through, most proud of them and always generous with his time. He cherished moments with his sons and grandchildren, taking an avid interest in their lives and always enjoying hearing what they were doing. He also had a lifelong love of baseball and remained a devoted Seattle Mariners fan, faithfully watching and hoping each season (even the last when they agonizingly failed to reach the World Series).
He is survived by his loving wife, Cora; his sons, Sean (Nini), Erik (Ayumi), and Kyle (Madison); six grandchildren; his uncle Bob (Marge); his cousin Annalee; numerous nieces and nephews; his brothers, Jim (Kathy) and Jeff (Kelly); and his sister, Jan.
Joe was one of the good ones: a hardworking, compassionate, kind, and special man who was deeply loved. He will be greatly missed and held forever in the hearts of all who knew him.
A graveside service will be held at Tahoma National Cemetery on May 14, 2026, at 2:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association or the National Kidney Foundation.
