Obituary

Joan Harriet Abbott Meece passed away peacefully on July 2, 2017 in Mount Vernon, WA surrounded by family and loved ones. Joan was born December 27, 1941 in Everett, WA. She attended school in Granite Falls and then went to Everett Community College to study business. After finishing school Joan worked for J.C. Penney, the Darrington Bowling Alley, Serve U, Safeway, Darrington IGA, and was the co-owner of the Red Top Tavern.
Joan enjoyed many hobbies such as crocheting, reading, gardening, baking, canning, bowling and cribbage. She belonged to a local bowling league and had a 200 average and was the first woman to win the Darrington Groundhogs Day Cribbage Tournament.
Joan is survived by her husband Gary; children Richard(Teresa), Maxine(Kerry), Maria(Billy), and Marcella; she is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild and 3 sisters. She was preceded in death by her parents, 4 brothers, and 1 sister.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday July 8, 2017 at 1:00pm at Darrington Cemetery with a dinner to follow at the Darrington Community Center. Donations can be made in Joan's name to Darrington Memorial Dinners, PO Box 698 Darrington, WA 98241.
Arrangements are under the care of Gilbertson Funeral Home, Stanwood, WA.
