IN LOVING MEMORY OF
James Edward
Mcnally
July 31, 1946 – May 31, 2025
James "Jim" Edward McNally, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, veteran, and community volunteer, passed away peacefully on May 31, 2025, at the age of 78. His final moments were spent at home, encircled by the love of his wife Kathy and their three cherished daughters.
Born on July 31, 1946, in Tacoma, Washington and grew up in Bremerton. Jim's life was an extraordinary journey filled with service, love, and laughter. A proud veteran, Jim served in the US Army Security Agency during the Vietnam War, stationed in Asmara, Ethiopia at Kagnew Station.
After his military service, Jim and his family settled in Aurora, Colorado, where he embarked on his 27-year career as a systems engineer with Hughes Aircraft Space and Communications (GM/Raytheon) at the Aerospace Data Facility located in Aurora. His professional life was marked by dedication, precision, and an unwavering pursuit of excellence.
After retirement he devoted over a decade volunteering at the Aurora police station doing various tasks such as civilian finger printing, writing fraud reports, and creating composite drawings from victim descriptions. Since moving to Camano Island, he was active in Sound Water Stewards (an advocacy group that helps protect and preserve PNW coastal ecosystems), as well as active in the church community of St Aidan's. His contributions were a testament to his belief in giving back and making a difference.
A man of many talents, Jim was known for his handy skills, often building and fixing things around the house and assisting his children with their home projects. Despite the occasional hiccup, his meticulous nature ensured that every task was completed to perfection (with at least one cable tie).
Jim's passions were as diverse as they were endearing. He had a penchant for word games and story problems. He valued education, punctuality and doing things well. Additionally, he enjoyed watching TV with the volume off and savoring the tranquility of his deck while soaking in the morning sun.
Above all, Jim's greatest joy came from his family. Survived by his wife Kathy, his children Stephanie (married to Michael, with children Polly and Grace), Jennifer (married to Jeffrey, with children Holden and Ava), Amy (married to Nic, with son Henry and stepsons Christopher and Owen), his sister Diane, and extended family and friends.
Jim's sense of humor and zest for life left an indelible mark on all who knew him. While words cannot fully express the depth of his impact, his legacy will continue to inspire love, laughter, and kindness in those he leaves behind.
The family invites friends and loved ones to celebrate Jim's life at a memorial service, with details to be announced. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to St. Aidan's Memorial Fund (Camano Island, WA).
Jim will be profoundly missed. He will be held dearly in the hearts of his family and friends.
