IN LOVING MEMORY OF
James Bernard
Lund
July 27, 1934 – October 29, 2017
JAMES BERNARD LUND
July 27, 1934 –
October 29, 2017
James Bernard Lund, 83, of Stanwood, died peacefully on October 29, 2017. Jim was born in Mount Vernon on July 27, 1934, to Bernard and Elvina Lund. He graduated from Twin City High School in 1952 and had lifelong friendships with many of his classmates. He was a lifelong resident of the Stanwood area.
Jim enjoyed life to the fullest with farming and his friendships with the local farmers and his memberships in many organizations. Jim was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Stanwood, Stanwood Sons of Norway for 65 years, Lifetime Member of the Stanwood Lions, Lifetime Member of the Mount Vernon Elks, Commissioner for Dist. 7 Dike and Drainage District, and previously member of the Twin City Sportsmen and Stanwood Yacht Club. But most of all, he was known as the Lutefisk King, cooking Lutefisk for many organizations and restaurants for more than 55 years. It was a fun and enjoyable life for him making all the lutefisk eaters happy. He will be sadly missed.
Jim had an adventurous side too. When he got out of high school, he and two friends, took a road trip to New York staying at Times Square. When his Mother called to tell him his draft papers were received in the mail, he had to cut the trip short and return home to enlist in the Army. After his Army days, he did a little logging, land development and had the Twin City Builder's Supply in Stanwood. When his parents were too old to manage their farm anymore, he took over the family farm where he was still farming. He grew several different kinds of crops and enjoyed the friendships of all the farmers in the area.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard and Elvina Lund, his brother Vernon Lund and his wife Carolyn of 45 years.
He is survived by his loving wife Pat, step children John and Lisa Dobbins and step granddaughter Chelane Dobbins. His brother Larry and sister-in-law Janette, and their children Gary and Charlene. And his brother Vernon's children, Pene, Pam, Patty and Scott. Plus many of Carolyn's family who have been a joy in Jim's life and spent many visits with Jim during this difficult time. A special thanks to Delores, Lori and Kelsey.
Jim and Pat, took many trips with the highlight of going to Norway where Jim's grandfather had come from. They also traveled and cruised to Mexico and cruised to Alaska and took their annual fall trips to Reno and Laughlin and winter trips to Arizona. Jim was diagnosed with pancreatic/liver cancer on Oct. 2 nd.. He and Pat had just returned from a train trip to the Scandinavian Host Fest in Minot ND. It was a very fast growing cancer but he had a chance to spend some quality time with many family members and close friends.
There will be a celebration of Jim's life at 11:00 am on Friday, November 10, at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, 27201 99 th Ave NW, Stanwood, WA 98292, followed by a lunch. A viewing will be held from 9 a.m. to 4:30 pm on Monday, November 6 and Tuesday, November 7 at Gilbertson Funeral Home, 27001 88 th Ave NW, Stanwood, WA 98292.
