James Marion Hawkins (Jim) was born in Sacramento, CA to Violet and Howell Hawkins on April 29, 1929. He grew up in Napa, CA. At the age of 17, he enlisted in the Army Air corps and became a criminal investigator. He retired from the military in 1967 after 22 years of service. In 1968 Jim began his second career as Chief Sky Marshal with the U.S. Customs Service and retired as a Special Agent in 1989. Both careers took him and his family to many faraway places. In 1976 Jim met Dottie in the cafeteria at work and they were married on January 7, 1977. In 1998 they retired to Camano Island. Jim died peacefully at his home on Camano on December 15th, 2015.
Jim loved boating and RVing, traveling to Europe and England, snowbirding to Arizona to soak up the sun, and enjoyed Mariners spring training. He was an expert on WWII history and was out go-to guy for family genealogy. Woodworking and metal detecting were some of his hobbies. He could fix or build most anything. We, his family, honor his memory, the things he stood for, and the love he left behind.
Jim is survived by Dottie his wife of 39 years; children Marc (Kerry), Val (Kim), Cassie (Bud), Blair (Dawn); stepsons Bob (Deeann), Mike (Anne), and Tim (Katy); 14 grandchildren and 10+ great grandchildren.
