James A Garberg, 85, passed away April 22, 2018, in Arlington at an adult family care facility. He was born in East Stanwood in the Victoria Heights, Freeborn area, on September 1, 1932, the oldest of four children, sisters Marion, Lila, and Karen.

James served in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict. Then made his career in the Merchant Marine. Married in 1957 to Mary Lou Hanson in Stanwood and had one child Anita.

James is survived by his sisters Lila and Karen, wife of 61 years Mary Lou, his daughter Anita, granddaughter Annie, grandsons Brian and Robert and great grandsons Cole and Hunter.

A memorial will be held May 4, 2018 at 11AM at Freeborn Lutheran Church, 2300 300 ^th St NW Stanwood, WA 98292. Pastor Erik Samualson will officiate.
