Jacqueline "Jacie" Jean DeGroot passed away peacefully at her home in Arlington, Washington at the age of 80. Born in Everett, Washington on April 30, 1941 to Peter Van Biezen and Vivian Anderson, Jacie immediately brought joy and laughter into the world.

Jacie is survived by John DeGroot, her loving husband of 61 years, and her three children: Jill (Jim) Boersema, Joan (Brian) Smith, Jim (Kim) DeGroot, her seven grandchildren: Chelsea (Adam) Klein, Jasmine DeGroot, Zachary Smith, Jordan DeGroot, Connor Smith, Paige Boersema and Parker Boersema, and her five great-grandchildren: Carter, Cameron, Corbin, Alyssa, and Destiny Klein. Jacie was predeceased by her parents and by her sister, Patty Van Biezen, who died as an infant.

Jacie and John met at the Everett Christian Reformed Church. They spent many summers camping with their kids and going on long drives to California to visit Jacie's mom. After the kids were grown, they continued travelling and enjoyed visiting sites all over the world together with family and friends.

Jacie graduated from Everett High School in 1959 after which she landed her first job, working in social services. Upon having their first child (Jill), Jacie dedicated her life to raising her family and being a fantastic and wonderful mother. In 1982 Jacie went back to school to train as a travel agent and she worked in that field for many years, including owning her own travel agency (Travel Designers in Lake Stevens).

In retirement Jacie enjoyed spending time in Palm Springs together with family and friends. Above all, Jacie loved and treasured the time she spent with her family. Birthdays, Christmas, vacations, Sunday meals after church, any chance to get together with her kids and grandkids was special to her.

A public viewing will be held on Tuesday, August 24, 2021 at the Gilbertson Funeral Home in Stanwood from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. A graveside service will be held at the Arlington Cemetery on Tuesday, August 24, 2021 at 1:00 PM. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, August 24, 2021, at 3:00 PM at the Cascade Christian Reformed Church in Marysville.
