Obituary

Glen Johnson, born December 29, 1925 on Camano Island, a lifelong resident and farmer in Stanwood, passed away on September 17, 2015 at the age of 89. His parents were Martin and Stella Johnson of Camano Island and he had one brother Cecil Johnson of Burlington.

After graduating from Stanwood High School, when there were two rival high schools in town, he worked on the family farm and eventually purchased the farm in 1945 from his parents. He was a hard working Norwegian, starting with a herd of milk cows and raising peas for Twin City Foods.

He married his wife Margaret Pierce of Mt. Vernon in 1952 and they were married 45 years before her passing in 1997. They worked hard farming, and she opened a beauty shop on the farm to make ends meet. Over the years Glen worked for Twin City Foods, drove heavy equipment clearing lost lake and the Camano Golf Course, and he became a real-estate broker for then, Al Atkins Realty. He later raised Black Angus, and grew cauliflower, peas, corn, and more recently potatoes for the local processers. He was a past president of the NW Washington Farm Crops Assoc., a Stanwood Camano Fair board member for 10 years, and was a commissioner of the local dike district for many years.

Glen was a wonderful father, father-in-law, grandfather and great grandfather to son Roger Johnson, his wife Lisbeth, and their son Jeremiah and daughter Kristen Ellinger; and daughter Sharon Clark, her husband Jeff, their son Ryan, his son Bryden, and their daughter Shayna Eastman. Glen was a good man, a great friend, lived simply, and at 89 was still driving tractor.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 7, 2015, at 2:00 pm at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, Stanwood, WA. Private graveside services were held September 24th at Camano Lutheran Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, remembrances can be made to Stanwood/Camano Food Bank.
