Gladys I. Naas
Gladys was born the middle of five children to Andrew and Inga Anderson in the year of 1920. She was born and raised in Arlington, Washington graduating from Arlington High School in 1938. During the next three years she worked as housekeeper and Nanny eventually for the owners of the Barkley Dance studio in Seattle. After returning to Stanwood she wed Melford Naas in 1941. Together they built and worked their daily farm on the Norman Road in Stanwood where they raised three children. Gladys, in addition to being a partner in the farming effort, worked at Twin City Foods in different capacities. Later she was asked to teach Norwegian Lefse making at the local High School. This led to her teaching the owners at Scandia Bakers the art of Lefse making. There was never a holiday when you would not find Gladys in the kitchen making lefse for family and friends.
Gladys was a life-long member of our Saviors Lutheran Church and a long time member of Camilla Colett Daughters of Norway Lodge, Silvana. She held several different positions over the years and served on many committees. She had a warm smile, many friends and enjoyed card parties, coffee at Haggen's Foods with "the gang" as well Senior Center and Church activities, both of which were the recipients of many good deeds by Gladys. She served as a secretary on the Board of Directors for the senior center for 5 years and was selected "Volunteer of the year" 1998-99.
Gladys is survived by her children: David (Susan) Naas, Norma (Bill) McCaleb all of Camano Island as well as Lori Naas. Texas, Granddaughters: Jodi Naas, San Francisco CA, and Jenifer Naas, (Sean Stanley) Portland Oregon, sisters: Ella Larson, Stanwood and Ruth Johns, Seattle, sister-in-law, Bonnie Naas of Bellingham. Passing just nine days before her was Melford, her husband of 68 years, sister, Helga Erickson and Brother Semon Anderson, all of Stanwood.
Gladys was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She loved all Stanwood and ALL. We will miss her very much.
